The Registration, Evaluation, Authorization and Restriction of Chemicals, also dubbed REACH, is a regulation of the European Union which aim is to improve the protection of human health and the environment from the risks that can be posed by chemicals as well as to strengthen the competitiveness of the EU chemical industry. It also promotes alternative methods for the hazard assessment of substances in order to reduce the number of tests on animals. 

In principle, REACH applies to all chemical substances used and/or found during industrial production and as part of the finished product therefore, the regulation has an impact on most companies across the EU. 

     As of today there are 73 substances on the Substances of Very High Concern (SVHC)  List . Some commom products that contains such banned substances are:

-Cleaning product fragrances

-Building blocks

-Many flexible PVC products (e.g. vinyl flooring, textiles and wall coverings)

-Polystyrene foam insulation used as a flame retardant

-polyurethane foams and MDI composite wood binders

-Phthalates

-Adhesives

-Composite wood

-Carpet backing
